day 178 - strobed
i've got this old strobe light that i've had around for at least a decade now. hardly ever use it, but i was thinking today it might be a decent light source for a multiple exposure faked using one long exposure type thing. so i set it up, and set up my camera to keep the shutter open for a half second, and this is what i got:
which is kinda cool, but a little dark for my tastes. so i got out some flashes, and set up a few optical slave triggers on them. i set them both to 1/64th power (so they can keep up with the strobe before the power up timing becomes a problem) and put one camera right, and one behind me. a couple more attempts, and i got the shot up top.
so yeah, the strobe light was actually not very bright. my flashes at 1/64th were each way more powerful. the strobe was really just a trigger and a tiny bit of fill for the flashes. and i had to be quick... firing a flash six times a second can drain the batteries pretty quickly, even at 1/64th.
