day 284 - spray bottle

i had this idea to mist the air around my head with a spray bottle right before i take a picture, and backlight the water droplets so they show up very distinctly. i used a wide open aperture for a short depth of field, hoping that some droplets would be in focus, and some out. thought that might make things interesting.

i do wonder if the droplets are reflecting light onto my face.... sort of like a cloud fill effect..... i know fog does that, i don't see why droplets wouldn't.

day 283 - leaner

above below left right. done.

setup shot:

day 282 - outstretched

i wanted to set up some light so that my outstretched hands would be lit from above and below. so, top is softbox, bottom is reflected trigrip light. looks okay. the trigrip's golden light is very focus-y, which is interesting on the background.

day 281 - candle

day 280 - sheen

a variation on day 279..... now the trigrip is serving more of a beauty light function, and the sb-3 is hitting up the background. i like the sheen on my sweatshirt..... i think that's mostly from the trigrip bouncing light up at a sharp angle.

day 279 - cross with fill

thought i would use the dish a bit more, since it was already set up. this started out as a cross light, dish front left, sb-3 back right, but i wanted a gentler fill, so i threw the trigrip in there in the middle. it balanced things out nicely.

day 278 - negative spaces

my original idea for this shot had everything to do with that little triangle of light under my arm and over my leg. i wanted to light for that spot only, to really define it and make it the centerpiece of what was going on in this picture. then i decided i wasn't feeling the silhouette thing, so i set up a beauty dish to turn the upper part of the picture into more of a portrait thing. so top half, portrait. bottom half, silhouette. i like it.
